Lampang Airport

Lampang Airport (LPT) is in Phra Bat subdistrict, in the Mueang district of Lampang province, and the Department of Airports runs it. One airline serves it, to Bangkok Don Mueang. It is one of the oldest airfields in the country.

Which airline flies to Lampang Airport

Thai AirAsia flies between Lampang and Bangkok Don Mueang, using A320s. The airline added the route in October 2024, and current route listings show no service to Suvarnabhumi.

Nok Air and Bangkok Airways both served Lampang in the past.

Lampang Airport in the early years

Lampang Airport was established on 7 November 1923 and was used the following February for an air show touring the north. In the Second World War it became part of the Lampang Airfield Complex, was occupied by Imperial Japanese Army troops in December 1941, and was developed into a bomber airfield the following year.

Thai Airways Company began commercial services with DC-3s in 1946. A control tower and aeronautical radio followed in 1953, and a concrete terminal and a five-storey tower were finished in 1965.

The terminal that opened in 2015

The present terminal was built from 2012. It opened in part on 27 September 2015 and to the public on 22 October 2015, which is why two opening dates circulate for it.

The runway and the 2016 expansion plan

Lampang has one asphalt concrete runway, 1,971 metres long and 45 metres wide, with a parallel taxiway. The apron measures 60 by 250 metres and holds three Boeing 737-400 stands and seven helicopter positions.

A plan in the 2016 budget year would have taken the runway to between 2,150 and 2,200 metres and added two more aircraft stands. It is still 1,971 metres.
