Krabi International Airport (KBV) is run by the Department of Airports (DOA), a government department under Thailand's Ministry of Transport that operates 28 civil airports around the country. It is not an Airports of Thailand (AOT) airport, and that distinction decides where its official information comes from.

Why Krabi Airport is not an Airports of Thailand airport

A transfer would have made it one, and that transfer was postponed indefinitely on 6 March 2025. Cabinet approval to move Krabi, Udon Thani and Buri Ram from the DOA to AOT came in August 2022. Nation Thailand reported the reasoning as financial: the three airports earn well and their revenue supports the department's smaller ones, and department staff did not want to become AOT employees.

This is easy to get wrong from a search result. A 2021 aviation-industry analysis is headlined as though AOT had already taken the airport on, when what it describes is the plan that was later shelved.

Where Krabi Airport is, and how to contact it

The address the department publishes on its own contact page for the airport is 133 Moo 5, Phetkasem Road, Nuea Khlong Sub-district, Nuea Khlong District, Krabi Province 81130. Two telephone numbers appear alongside it, +66 075-701-472 for public relations and +66 075-701-474 for finance, with a fax on +66 075-701-470.

That contact page gives no distance to Krabi town and no journey time. Figures quoted elsewhere disagree with each other, ranging from about 7 km to 15 km. Treat any single number as approximate until you are in the vehicle.

The terminal that opened in 2025

A new domestic terminal, Terminal 3, had a soft launch on 26 September 2025 and was open by 10 October, with the existing terminals renovated as part of the same upgrade. The work took the airport's combined floor space to a reported 68,000 square metres and its annual capacity to 8 million passengers.

How the buildings work together afterwards is the part that is not settled. Asian Trails, reporting the opening in October 2025, described three terminals in use, with international departures through Gates 1 to 7 and domestic departures through Gates 8 to 14. Travel guides describe a single consolidated building that replaced the older two, and none of the department's own contact, facilities or flight pages names a terminal count.

Take the terminal from your booking or your boarding pass, not from a number you read somewhere else.

How busy Krabi Airport is

Passenger totals attributed to the Department of Airports' statistics dashboard put 2025 at 3,053,553, split 2,289,137 domestic and 764,416 international. The two years before that were quieter, at 2,589,636 in 2024 and 2,309,797 in 2023.

The 2018 total was bigger than any of the three, at 4,193,099 passengers. Where that total turns up rounded and undated, it is describing 2018 rather than a recent year.

How do I get from Krabi Airport to Krabi town and Ao Nang?

Buses and minivans, taxis, ride-hailing and hire cars all leave from the airport. Krabi town itself is covered in the Krabi destination guide, and Ao Nang has its own guide. Koh Lanta is reached from this airport too, by road and boat instead of by air.

By bus or minivan

A bus and minivan service runs from the airport, reported to be operated by Pichet Transport Co. Tickets are colour-coded by destination: green for Krabi bus station, red for Krabi town, orange for the Ao Nang minivan and white for the Ao Nang shuttle bus. That account comes from a third-party travel site, not from the operator.

By taxi

Taxis from the airport are reported to work on a fixed fare instead of a meter. Settle the number before you get in.

By ride-hailing

Grab runs airport transfers from Krabi, quoting the price up front in its app on every ride type except its own taxi option.

By hire car

Sixt, Hertz and Budget each list a Krabi Airport location on their own websites. Lists naming a fixed set of rental firms at the airport do circulate, and they do not agree with one another, so confirm the company you want still has a desk here before you rely on finding one.

Where you can fly from Krabi Airport

Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui are the routes out of Krabi this site holds schedule pages for, and the airport's own network is larger:

The return legs have pages of their own: Bangkok to Krabi, Chiang Mai to Krabi and Koh Samui to Krabi.

Krabi handles international traffic as well as domestic, and roughly a quarter of its 2025 passengers were on international flights. The department's home page links to a handful of airlines without saying what the list is for, and the rosters published elsewhere disagree with each other and still name airlines that have since stopped flying. Check the timetable of the airline you are considering rather than trusting any list of who serves the airport.

Facilities at Krabi Airport

The department's facilities list for Krabi names food and drink outlets in English, including Southern Coffee, Cafe Amazon, Burger King, Potato Corner, Koh Hop Bar and Imm Rice & Noodle. A souvenir shop, a bookshop and a jewellery shop are listed as well, each labelled in Thai.

Two amenities carry English labels of their own: a Baby Care Room, and a room the department prints as a "Player Room". That spelling is the department's, and the listing says nothing further about what the room is for.

Four lounges appear on the list, each labelled in Thai with the floor it is on.

The facilities list carries no date. Tenants change with a terminal rebuild and this airport had one in 2025. Anything you are planning around a particular shop or counter is worth confirming when you land.
