Sakon Nakhon Airport (SNO) is in Thatnaweng subdistrict, in the Mueang district of Sakon Nakhon province, and the Department of Airports runs it. As of September 2026 it has one scheduled destination, Bangkok Don Mueang, and two airlines flying there.
Nok Air and Thai AirAsia are the two airlines serving Sakon Nakhon, and both fly to and from Bangkok Don Mueang. They were the only two carriers on the operator's flight board for the airport on 1 September 2026, and the only two scheduled carriers in the Department of Airports' own movement records for the whole of 2025 and for January and February 2026. Every movement by those two was paired with Don Mueang.
As of September 2026, Thai AirAsia's own booking site describes the Don Mueang flight as direct, and between one hour fifteen and one hour twenty minutes.
Sakon Nakhon connects to Don Mueang, not to Suvarnabhumi. A long-haul arrival into Suvarnabhumi means moving between the two airports before flying on.
There is no international service here. The aviation authority's aerodrome entry lists no customs and no immigration at Sakon Nakhon, which is what an international arrival would have to clear.
This site holds schedule pages for that route in both directions: Sakon Nakhon to Bangkok and Bangkok to Sakon Nakhon.
There is one runway, 05/23, 2,600 metres long and 45 metres wide, surfaced in asphaltic concrete. Rescue and fire fighting cover is category 6. The airport stands 529 feet above sea level.
Those figures are the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand's, from its aeronautical information publication, read in September 2026. The authority reissues that entry on a rolling amendment cycle, so a later edition can differ from this one.
There are two aprons, east and west, and four aircraft parking stands, the stand count being the figure the Deputy Minister of Transport gave in April 2025. There is no visual docking guidance at Sakon Nakhon, so aircraft park to a marshaller's instructions.
The authority's own note on the aerodrome warns of bird concentration in the vicinity of runway 23. It also records the aerodrome as available in all seasons.
The aerodrome operator, the air traffic services and their reporting office all work 06:00 to 18:00 local time, on the aviation authority's aerodrome entry as of September 2026. The authority publishes those hours as 2300 to 1100 in Coordinated Universal Time, and Thailand runs seven hours ahead of it.
The same entry lists none of the following at Sakon Nakhon: fuelling, handling, cargo handling, hangar space or repair facilities for visiting aircraft, a bank, a post office, a tourist office, customs or immigration. Hotels, restaurants and the hospital are all given as being in the city.
That reporting office is not on the field: the authority places it at the Udon Thani Air Traffic Control Centre.
The airport is north of the city, on the Sakon Nakhon to Nakhon Phanom road. The authority lists exactly two forms of ground transport here: limousine and car rental. There is no bus, shuttle or rail entry against this aerodrome.
What there is to do once you are in the province is covered in the Sakon Nakhon destination guide.
The Department of Airports operates Sakon Nakhon Airport, and it is named as the operator on the aviation authority's aerodrome entry.
An early plan considered moving four of the department's airports to Airports of Thailand: Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Tak and Chumphon. The Bangkok Post reported in August 2022 that the plan had been revised and three airports chosen instead, none of them Sakon Nakhon.
Nok Air and Thai AirAsia, and both fly the Bangkok Don Mueang route. They were the only two carriers on the operator's flight board on 1 September 2026, and the only two scheduled carriers in the Department of Airports' movement records for 2025 and for January and February 2026.
Sakon Nakhon is a domestic airport. The aviation authority's aerodrome entry lists no customs and no immigration, and every scheduled movement in the operator's own records for 2025 and for January and February 2026 was to or from Bangkok Don Mueang.
The aerodrome operator and the air traffic services work 06:00 to 18:00 local time, on the aviation authority's aerodrome entry as of September 2026. The authority reissues that entry periodically, so check the current edition before relying on the hours.
The aviation authority's aerodrome entry lists car rental and limousine as the ground transport at Sakon Nakhon, and it names no company. If you want a particular firm or a particular vehicle, book it before you travel.
