Hua Hin Airport

Hua Hin Airport (HHQ) is run by the Department of Airports and sits on the boundary between two provinces: partly in Hua Hin district in Prachuap Khiri Khan, partly in Cha-am district in Phetchaburi. It has one scheduled route and no scheduled flights to Bangkok.

The one scheduled route from Hua Hin Airport

Thai AirAsia flies between Chiang Mai and Hua Hin, and that is the airport's entire scheduled network. The airport confirmed in July 2026 that the route does not run every day at present and is due to become a daily service from 25 October 2026.

Until that change takes effect, a trip built around this airport has to fit the days the route runs. Check with the airline before you book the rest of the journey.

There are no scheduled flights between Hua Hin and Bangkok. The road and rail journey from Bangkok is short.

Hua Hin Airport and international flights

The airport is described as international and has no international service. A Kuala Lumpur route ran from 2018 until 2020, when it was suspended during the pandemic, and reference works recorded no international flights here as of July 2026.

The government set out in May 2026 what bringing them back involves, and it is more than an airline decision. The airport needs a public aerodrome operating certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, and the immigration, customs, plant quarantine and animal quarantine posts have to be ready.

Tourism officials have named Malaysia as the likely first market, with Singapore, Shanghai and Taiwan among the other short-haul markets in view.

That is a statement of intent rather than a service you can book. Treat any international flight from Hua Hin as something to check with the airline on the day you are booking, not as an arrangement already in place.

The runway, and the work reported in May 2026

Hua Hin has one asphalt runway, 16/34, 2,100 metres long and 35 metres wide. The runway safety area is reported as below what the International Civil Aviation Organization recommends.

Two pieces of work were named in May 2026: a road tunnel, and improvements to the safety area at the runway 16 end. Published completion dates for that programme disagree, so it is not the sort of thing to plan a trip around.

The 2018 upgrade announcement

In August 2018 the Department of Airports announced a five-year upgrade of Hua Hin, with a second terminal, more hangar space and a wider runway, and said passenger numbers could grow tenfold to three million a year.

Published statistics give the airport 63,230 passengers in 2025, on 447 aircraft movements, both down on the year before. The terminal is rated for 300 passengers in a busy hour.
